April 22, 2024: The university of Illinois College of Law and the ISAR Program hosted a conversation with Former Guatemalan Constitutional Court Justice and ISAR Program Scholar Gloria Porras about Guatemala and her experiences as a judge. The conversation was moderated by ISAR Program Committee Chair Dr. Colleen Murphy and Senior Associate Dean for Graduate and International Programs, Carl L. Vacketta Professor of Law, and ISAR Program Committee Member Dr. Margareth Etienne.

March 22, 2024: The Russian, East European, and Eurasian Center at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign hosted Pavlo Dziuba, Visiting Professor of Economics, to give a lecture titled, “Economy of Ukraine: Transformation Track, Military Challenges and Post-War Rebuilding.” This event was supported in part by a grant funding from the U.S. Department of Education Title VI National Resource Centers Program.

Spring 2024: The Quadrangle is a biannual magazine published by the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences every spring and fall. It tells stories of and impacting alumni, students, faculty, and staff throughout the college. In spring 2024, the magazine featured the Illinois Scholars at Risk Program and scholars. March 5, 2024: The Women and Gender in Global Perspectives Program (WGGP) and the Humanities Research Institute (HRI) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign co-hosted the event, “12 Women Who Changed the World: Untold Stories” bringing together faculty, staff, students, and community members to recognize people who have made a difference in academia. The event featured 12 speakers from across our university and community, including Colleen Murphey (ISAR Program Committee Chair) and ISAR Program Scholar Gloria Porras. Each speaker shared a story of a woman who made important contributions to the scholarship, discipline and/or broader academic community life.

January 25, 2023: The Women and Gender in Global Perspective Program hosted Dr. Elena Kopteva for hybrid event, “The Global Impacts of the War in Ukraine – Family and War.” This talk was part of the Illinois Global Institute Speaker Series, “The Global Impacts of the War in Ukraine.” This talk was co-sponsored by the Department of Physics; Center for Africa Studies; Center for East Asian and Pacific Studies; Center for Global Studies; Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies; European Union Center; The Lemann Center for Brazilian Studies; Program in Arms Control and Domestic and International Security; and the Russian, East European, and Eurasian Center.

October 14, 2022: The University of Illinois has joined Scholars at Risk, a program designed to help individuals whose lives and work are at risk because of war, political disruption, or natural disaster. Scholars from areas such as Afghanistan, Ethiopia, or Ukraine will be able to come to the University to research and study for a year.
